Seattle, WA, July 26, 2017 – The North American Premier Basketball League announced its newest team in Seattle, Washington. Seattle residents will help pick the team name while other details about the team, including venue and coaching staff, are finalized over the next few weeks.
“Seattle is a hotbed of talent and a remarkable market for professional basketball”, League President and COO Dave Magley said Wednesday. “For us to be able to add a franchise in our first season in such an amazing place is consistent with the direction that we have set for this new initiative.”
Incepto Potenti Incorporated, a leader in the emerging market of athlete development, will own the new Seattle team. IPI helps athletes excel on the court, in the classroom, and throughout their communities. Owning a professional basketball team in a historically rich and fertile market such as Seattle is consistent with their core vision for growth throughout North America.
Magley in particular finds IPI’s mission compatible with the NAPB’s goals. “[IPI]’s vision is consistent with the NAPB’s mandate of working with the local school districts and youth programs as well as non-profit organizations to ‘serve our way to success,’” Magley said. “Our young men have an opportunity to positively impact so many lives by delivering messages of anti-bullying, the benefits of education, and the dangers of drugs and alcohol abuse in their commuities.”
Magley and his business partner, Dr. Sev Hrywnak, announced the formation of the new league on July 6th . Its chief intention is to reconnect professional basketball with markets throughout the United States and Canada who once had great teams in earlier leagues or fit the specific demographics that could support a league of this type.
Magley and Hrywnak form a dream team for this specific venture. Most recently, Magley was Commissioner of the NBL Canada, and Hrywnak founded and owns the Premier Basketball League in the northeastern United States.
The NAPB will consist of 8-12 teams in its first season. Confirmed teams include the new Seattle team as well as the Rochester RazorSharks, formerly of the Premier Basketball League. The inaugural season runs from January 1, 2018 through the end of April with a playoff series in May. Tryouts or combines will be held all over North America beginning in Winnipeg, MB on August 19.
